Water Distribution Systems

Our water distribution system projects have ranged from rural water district extensions to replacement of densely developed village and town water systems. We continually look for ways to leverage grant and loan funding from multiple sources, and our familiarity with funding agencies streamlines the process.

Booster Pump Stations

Village of Albion Booster Pump Station

Chatfield Engineers, P.C. provided the design and construction Phase Services for the Village of Albion Five Corners Booster Pump Station. The project was completed within budget and within the original project schedule.

The pump station consisted of replacing existing pumps, motors, piping, electrical controls and instrumentation for operating the booster pump station remotely from the Village of Albion WTP, and installation of an emergency power generator.

Village of Silver Springs Booster Pump Station

The project consisted of an aeration tower to remove hydrogen sulfide, two-350 gpm pumps, electrical controls, an emergency power generator, and instrumentation for operating the booster pump station.

Water Storage Tanks

Town of Clarendon 150,000 Gal. Water Storage Tank

Chatfield Engineers P.C. provided Design and Construction Phase Services for the Town of Clarendon’s 150,000 gallon Water Storage Tank.

The Town of Clarendon has aggressively constructed several water districts to provide potable water to hundreds of residents. Since water is provided from the Monroe County Water Authority several miles away, Chatfield Engineers, P.C. recommended that an elevated water storage tank be constructed.

The water storage tank was constructed at the same over flow elevation as the Town of Barre’s water storage tank. This careful planning allows for each community to share the water storage tanks in the event of an emergency.

Town of Perry 150,000 Gal. Water Storage Tank

Chatfield Engineers, P.C. provided Design and Construction Phase Services for the Town of Perry’s 150,000 gallon Water Storage Tank.

The Town of Perry completed this project as part of the Perry Center Water Main Replacement Project. Since water is provided from the Village of Perry several miles away, Chatfield Engineers, P.C. recommended that an elevated water storage tank be constructed.

The water storage tank was constructed at the same over flow elevation as the Village of Perry’s water storage tank. This careful planning allows for each community to share the water storage tanks in the event of an emergency.

Village of Albion 3-MG Water Storage Tank

Chatfield Engineers, P.C. provided the Construction Phase Services for the 3.0 MG Pre-Stressed Concrete Storage Tank to serve the Village of Albion Water System.

Chatfield Engineers, P.C. provided the coordination with several Contractors, Utility Companies, the Village Board of Albion, the Town Board’s of Albion & Barre, both Highway Departments and the Village of Albion DPW.

The new 3.0 MG storage tank replaced two (2) smaller water storage tanks that provided minimal storage capacity. The project was completed in 1993, within the allocated budget, and continues to serve the Albion Water System flawlessly.

Village of Burdett Water Storage Tanks

Chatfield Engineers, P.C. provided the Design and Construction Phase Services for demolition and removal of the existing steel water storage tank.

The existing 250,000 water storage tank, was replaced with a new 250,000 gallon post tension concrete water storage tank. The new tank was located on the same site.

Village of Nunda 300,000 Gal. Water Storage Tank

Chatfield Engineers, P.C. provided the Design & Construction Phase Services for the Village of Nunda 300,000 gallon water storage Tank. This tank project was completed with grant funds from the NYS Governors Office of Small Cities (GOSC).

This project was located at the Village of Nunda Water Treatment Plant site, immediately adjacent to the existing 400,000 gallon water storage tank. The project also included abandonment of the existing open topped concrete storage tank, installation of a meter/valve vault, miscellaneous site piping, and construction of a retaining wall.

This project was completed in a timely fashion and within budget. The new water storage tank significantly increased the water system storage and reliability. The water storage tank was placed into service prior to the Village of Nunda Water System Emergency at the raw water reservoir, and provided the necessary capacity, while the emergency repairs were made. Without the new 300,000 gallon water storage tank, the Village of Nunda would have been completely out of potable water during the emergency.

Village of Pike Water Storage Tank

Chatfield Engineers, P.C. provided the Design & Construction Phase Services for the Village of Pike 200,000 gallon water storage tank. This tank project was completed with grant funds from the NYS Governors Office of Small Cities (GOSC).

The new tank was installed on Village’s water storage tank site. The project also included abandonment of the Village’s 100-year old concrete storage tank, installation of a meter/valve vault, miscellaneous improvements and site piping.

This project was completed in a timely fashion and within budget. The new water storage tank increased the water system storage, security and reliability. Due to site constraints, operation and maintenance concerns and budget, a pre-stressed concrete tank (AWWA – D-110) was selected.

Village of Silver Springs 400,000 Gal. Water Storage Tank

Chatfield Engineers, P.C. provided the Design & Construction Phase Services for the Village of Silver Springs 400,000 water storage Tank. This tank project was part of a comprehensive water project which included:

  • Replacement of Several Thousand Linear Feet of Aged Watermain
  • Abandonment of a Dilapidated Concrete Water Tank
  • Construction of a Booster Pump Station and Water Treatment Plant

This analysis of water storage tank styles and types was completed by Chatfield Engineers, P.C. with input from the Village of Silver Springs.

This project was completed in a timely fashion and within budget. The new water storage tank significantly increased the water system capacity and reliability.

Village of Alexander Water Storage Tank

The project involved the construction of a new 227,000 gallon glass lined steel, water storage tank and the installation of approximately 6,000 linear feet of 8” and 12” PVC water main pipe.

The purpose of the project was to improve the hydraulic conditions throughout the entire Village of Alexander, eliminate stagnation within the existing water storage tank and stabilize water pressure within the water system.

Chatfield Engineers, P.C. provided design, construction phase and inspection phase services for the Village of Alexander Water Storage Tank Project.

Town of Riga Water Improvement Benefit Area No.1

The Town of Riga recently undertook the construction of the Water Improvement Benefit Area No. 1, a water project to provide water service to the remaining 305 homes and businesses within the Town of Riga. As of November 16, 2011 water service has been extended to all but two homes within the Benefit Area. It is anticipated that those remaining homes will have water service available to them within the next 90 days as the remaining Contract 7 is completed. Contract 7 consists of three (3) CSX Railroad borings and approximately 3,800 linear feet of water main along Gough Road (south of the railroad tracks) and interconnections at Atridge Road and Buffalo Road near Sheridan Road.

The project schedule was accelerated by the Town Board of Riga, under the leadership of Supervisor Bob Ottley. Chatfield Engineers, P.C. provided the Design and Construction Phase Services associated with the project.

The project consisted of the installation of approximately 140,000 linear feet of water main, water services and fire protection along various roads within the Town of Riga. The project was strategically broken down into eight (8) contracts of various sizes, allowing the work to be competitively bid to achieve the lowest possible pricing while at the same time potentially spreading the work to several pipeline contractors. The installation of water mains and water services to existing residences were completed during the 2011 construction season (April to November).

The total project was estimated at $9,000,000. However, due to the competitive nature of this type of work, the concept of breaking the project into several contracts and the accelerated schedule for completion of the works, the Town of Riga residents will see a significant savings, thereby lowering the debt service on the project.
